British State Visit to the Netherlands, 1958

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh started their State Visit to the Netherlands on this day in 1958, which included a series of grand and glittering events

The first day featured a series of welcome events in Amsterdam and ended with a State Banquet in honour of the Queen (in the Vladimir Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh hosted by Queen Juliana (wearing the Stuart Tiara and Parure) and Prince Bernhard at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, and also attended by Crown Princess Beatrix (wearing the Laurel Wreath Tiara), Princess Irene (in the Ears of Wheat Tiara), and the Duchess of Devonshire (wearing the Devonshire Palmette Tiara). It was followed by a Gala Performance.

The next few days included visits to Asscher’s in Amsterdam, the firm that cut the original Cullinan Diamond, and where the Queen wore the Cullinan III and IV Brooch. There was a Banquet and Ball at the Ridderzaal in The Hague, attended by the Queen (in Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara) and Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Juliana (wearing the Rose Cut Diamond Bandeau) and Prince Bernhard, Crown Princess Beatrix (in the Laurel Wreath Tiara) and Princess Irene (wearing the Ears of Wheat Tiara), and a Dinner on the Royal Yacht Britannia, with the Queen in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara.
