The Duke and Duchess started their visit at the Fire Station, one of Sunderland’s most iconic buildings, recently converted into a music and arts hub, where they met members of the local community, enjoyed colourful performances of music, dance and theatre from local children and young people, and officially opened The Fire Station.

They then traveled to see the Northern Spire, a new bridge over the River Wear, due to open in spring 2018. The Duke and Duchess met local children whose generation will benefit from the bridge in the future, before officially crossing the bridge and meeting the engineers and construction workers.

  1. Wow! That’s a really cool bridge! I’m going to add it to my wish list of places to visit when I return to the UK. 🙂
