The Princess of Asturias was awarded the Badge of the Order of the Golden Fleece by King Felipe (who is celebrating his 50th Birthday) at the Royal Palace of Madrid on January 30th. The Order of the Golden Fleece, founded by Philip III, Duke of Burgundy in 1430, is one of the most illustrious orders in Europe, and is the highest Honour of the Kingdom of Spain. The Princess received the Order on her 10th Birthday in 2015, becoming the first female in the Spanish Royal Family to receive the honour, and the fourth female overall, after Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, Queen Margrethe of Denmark, and Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.

  1. Wow! The Infanta Leonor is in excellent company, isn’t she! I just realized that there is quite a number of future queens regnant who will in turn be honored with the order- hopefully many years from now, of course! CP Victoria of Sweden, Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Princess Catharina-Amalia, and Princess Ingrid of Norway will be queens in their own right, just like the Infanta!
