Remembrance Sunday 2017

Members of the British Royal Family attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London on November 12th. For the first time, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh viewed the ceremony from a balcony, instead of laying their wreaths at the Cenotaph.

At the beginning of the solemn ceremony, the Queen and members of the Royal Family watched 750 Armed Forces personnel form a square around the memorial, which was followed by a 2-minute silence, after which members of the royal family and politicians laid wreaths on the Cenotaph memorial. This year, the Prince of Wales laid a wreath on behalf of the Queen, while the Duke of Edinburgh’s wreath was laid by an equerry. Both the Queen and Duke watched the ceremony from the balcony of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office building, joining other members of the family. Following the ceremony, thousands of veterans and servicemen and women paraded down Whitehall past the Guards memorial.

  1. This is such an incredibly moving ceremony. I think Prince Charles performed his duties admirably. All the ladies looked very elegant and proper as befits such an occasion. I thought the Duchess of Cambridge looked especially fine.
