State Opening of Parliament, 1967

The 1967 State Opening is notable because it marked the first time the 19 year-old Prince of Wales and 17 year-old Princess Anne (glittering in the Halo Scroll Tiara, on her very first tiara appearance) accompanied the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.

Other members of the family accompanying the group were Princess Margaret (wearing the Lotus Flower Tiara) and the Earl of Snowdon, Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester (in the Teck Turquoise Tiara and Parure), the Duke and Duchess of Kent (glittering in Queen Mary’s Crochet Bandeau), Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent (wearing the Kent Pearl Circles Bandeau), Princess Alexandra (in the Ogilvy Tiara) and Angus Ogilvy, and Princess Alexandra, Countess of Athlone (wearing her Honeysuckle Tiara).

Despite all the glitter (a sad thought, I know), the main focus was on the Queen’s Speech, which outlined the government’s policies for 1967/68.
