Queen at Royal Festival Hall, 1953

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended a Concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London on this day in 1953, which was arranged by the High Commissioner of Australia,  Sir Thomas White, and the High Commissioner of New Zealand, Sir Frederick Doidge, ahead of the Queen and Duke’s six-month Commonwealth Tour, which included visits to Australia and New Zealand.

The Queen wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara with Queen Victoria’s Pearl Earrings, Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Necklace, her Wedding Gift Bracelet, and the Order of the Garter.

The Queen Wears A Crinoline – The Queen And Prince Philip Went To The Royal Festival Hall Last Night For A Royal Concert Arranged By The High Commissioners Of Australia And New Zealand Sir Thomas White And Sir Frederick Doidge. The Queen Wore A Crinoline Type Evening Gown Of Needle Run Silver Lace And Pink Tulle Over Which Was The Ribbon Of The Order Of The Garter. The Duke Too Wore The Ribbon Of The Garter.
