Royals at the United Nations

Royals from around the world have been in New York City this week for the 72nd meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. They also attended events surrounding Goalkeepers 2017, organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to highlight progress against global poverty and disease, showcase solutions to help advance the Sustainable Development Goals (or Global Goals) and foster bold leadership to help accelerate the path to a more prosperous, healthy and just future.

King Abdullah and Queen Rania of Jordan were joined by their son and heir, Crown Prince Hussein, who led the Jordanian Delegation and gave Jordan’s address to the United Nations. Queen Rania presented a Global Citizen Award to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and gave a speech at Goalkeepers 2017.

Crown Princess Mary was on a three-day visit to New York City, where she attended and spoke at the event ‘Deliver for Good: Inspiring SDG Action for Girls and Women’. She also presented The Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards and attended the United Nations General Assembly.

Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, in her role as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, also attended The Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards and also gave a speech at Goalkeepers 2017 before meeting with the United Nations Secretary General . Also present was her sister-in-law, Princess Mabel, a noted humanitarian, who attended The Goalkeepers Global Goals Awards.
