Happy Birthday to Princess Takamado of Japan! The eldest daughter of a Japanese Industrialist, she grew up in England, and graduated from Cambridge University. Hisako returned to Japan in 1982. In 1984, she married Norihito, Prince Takamado, a cousin of the current Japanese Emperor. The couple had three daughters, and became the the most widely traveled couple in the Japanese Imperial Family before his sudden death in 2002. Princess Takamado continued to undertake her extensive round of Official duties and patronages, even taking over those of her late husband. Princess Takamado is also a children’s storybook author. She represents the Imperial Family abroad, including at the Weddings of Princess Madeline, and Prince Carl Phillip, as well as King Carl Gustaf’s 70th birthday. I wish Her Imperial Highness a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

  1. It’s always so nice to see Princess Takamado! She seems to be a really nice lady who gets along well with everybody. I’ll bet she’s a delightful guest, one you would like to sit next to at the dinner table. I wish her joy!

  2. I know! And isn’t it nice to see a Japanese royal lady dressed in a color other than white!

  3. Always lovely to see a post on Princess Hisako. A small correction: she didn’t grow up completely England. She graduated from Tokyo’s Sacred Heart primary and secondary schools.

    1. Really, when I was researching her, I read that she went to England at a young age! I’ll check again and change it, thanks!
