Prince and Princess of Wales in Canada, 1986

Canada is celebrating their 150th Anniversary of Confederation on July 1st. The British Royal Family is also the Royal Family of Canada, and the country holds a special significance as the place most visited by the Queen. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be in attendance at a few events celebrating the event. In the run up to July 1st, we are covering previous Royal Tours of Canada. Take a look below at scenes from the Prince and Princess of Wales’s Royal Tour of Canada in 1986-

The visit started with an Official Welcome ceremony in Victoria, the capital of the Province of British Columbia on April 30th. The Prince gave a speech, and afterwards, the couple went on a walkabout. The next day, the Prince and Princess visited the 1986 Expo Exhibition in Vancouver, where they met members of the First Nations community. In the evening, the couple attended the World Festival Of Arts Opera Performance, where the Princess wore her Saudi Sapphire Suite.

The next evening, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended a rock concert at the Expo 86 Theatre.

On May 3rd, the Prince and Princess of Wales officially opened a pavilion at the Expo ’86 in Vancouver. In the evening, the couple attended an official dinner in Vancouver, at which the Princess wore a white Murray Arbeid gown with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara.

The following day, the Prince and Princess of Wales were in the city of Prince George, where they attended a series of events at city Hall and planted a tree

For one evening event in Vancouver, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended a concert, which featured a performance by their friend Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

The next day, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited Burnaby, where the Prince was presented with a picture marking the visit of his great uncle, the Duke of Windsor, in 1919. The Prince and Princess signed the guestbook and met with members of the crowds.

The last event was a government dinner on the evening of May 7th. All eyes were on the Princess of Wales, as she had fainted earlier that day.
