Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan

Happy Birthday to Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan! Born the second of five children to Dhondup Gyaltshen and Sonam Chuki, her family has links to the Bhutanese Royal Family. Educated in Bhutan, India, and London (where she studied international relations with psychology and art history as minor subjects), she is fluent in Dzongkha (the national language of Bhutan), English and Hindi. In 2011, she married King Jigme of Bhutan in a lavish ceremony at the Punakha Dzong (the Palace of Great Happiness) in Punakha, Bhutan. They couple had their first child, a son, The Gyalsey, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, in 2016, and a second son in 2020. Queen Jetsun Pema undertakes Official duties with and on behalf of King Jigme and is the Royal Patron of Patron of Ability Bhutan Society, Royal Society for Protection of Nature, Jigten Wangchuk Tshogpa and is the UNEP Ozone Ambassador. In recent years, the King and Queen of Bhutan have welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the King and Queen of Sweden to their tiny Himalayan Kingdom.
