Gold Awards Presentation at Buckingham Palace

The Duke of Edinburgh hosted a Gold Awards Presentation for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the gardens of Buckingham Palace on May 24th with the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Over six million people have participated in Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programmes in the UK & achieved over 2.7 million awards since 1956. Click HERE to learn about the Awards. This was the Duke’s last Presentation of the Gold Awards before he retires this Autumn.

The Duke of Edinburgh was accompanied by the Earl and Countess of Wessex as he hosted a Gold Awards Presentation for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, which recognised people who have achieved the Gold Standard in the Award. The Duke, Earl, and Countess met many of the Award recipients and presenters, including BBC Weather Presenter Carol Kirkwood, radio DJs and presenters Rickie H-Williams and Melvin Odoom, and Olympic cyclist Nicole Cooke.

The Duke of Edinburgh wore a pinstriped suit with a patterned tie. The Earl of Wessex wore a grey double-breasted suit with a navy tie. The Countess of Wessex wore a cream Emilia Wickstead balloon-sleeve dress with gemstone earrings and her Duke of Edinburgh’s Award’s 60th Anniversary Diamond Pin.

  1. I love to see the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Edward working together. As the next Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward has been taking over his father’s duties and it’s wonderful that Prince Philip is able to see that his son is continuing his work. I also love the fact that they’re wearing hats! Men look so distinguished in hats, I hope these two very excellent examples start a trend!
