Happy Birthday to Queen Máxima of the Netherlands! Born in Buenos Aries, she is the daughter of Jorge Zorreguieta and María del Carmen Cerruti Carricart. Educated in Argentina, Máxima was working in a financial firm in New York when she met the then Crown Prince Willem Alexander of the Netherlands at the Seville Spring Fair. After some controversy (due to her father’s role in a former Argentine government), the couple married in Amsterdam in 2002. They have three daughters, Catherine-Amelia, Princess of Orange, Princess Alexia, and Princess Ariane, known affectionately as the ‘A-team’. King Willem-Alexander succeeded to the Dutch Throne after the abdication of his mother in 2013, and she became the first Queen Consort of the country since 1890. Alongside her royal duties, Queen Máxima serves as the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development. We wish her Majesty a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!
