Wedding of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall

Happy Wedding Anniversary to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, who got married on this day in 2005. The marriage was not without its controversy, with scandal, divorce, and tragedy in their 40-year long romance, and the couple opted for a quieter civil wedding followed by a Church Blessing at St George’s Chapel in Windsor rather than a grand London Wedding. Take a look below at highlights from the day-

The Prince of Wales and his bride left Windsor Castle for Windsor Guildhall, where they were married in a private Civil Ceremony. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh did not attend, but most other members of the family, including their respective children were present.

Later, guests walked from Windsor Castle to St George’s Chapel for the Church of England Service of Prayer and Dedication. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, as well as members of some foreign royal families were in attendance. The service was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and subsequently the group posed on the steps of the Chapel and met with the crowds. Afterwards, the Queen held a reception at the Castle before the Prince and Duchess left for their honeymoon.

The Prince of Wales wore Morning Dress. The new Duchess wore an Ana Valentine floor-length embroidered pale blue and gold coat over a matching chiffon gown and a dramatic spray of golden feathers in her hair.
