The Norwegian Royal Family will be hosting President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson of Iceland later today. The programme promises a glittering State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo this evening. In honour of the upcoming State Visit, we have been featuring State Banquets during past Icelandic State Visits to Norway. Click HERE for the 1971 State Visit, HERE for the 1981 State Visit, and HERE for the 1997 State Visit. Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Mette Marit, and Princess Astrid are scheduled to attend, and we will see them in the glittering Norwegian royal tiaras. Vote Below on what Tiara you think they might wear:
Queen Sonja
Queen Sonja usually wears the Emerald Tiara and Queen Josefina’s Diamond Tiara for the most important events. Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara continues to be a popular choice, worn at four out of her five gala events last year. My personal prediction is for either the emerald or the diamond tiara, mostly since Iceland is an important Scandinavian neighbor, and since Queen Sonja has worn either one or the other for past State Visits from Iceland.
Crown Princess Mette Marit
Crown Princess Mette Marit only has access to the Diamond Daisy bandeau and the Amethyst Necklace Tiara, but my opinion is that she will chose the Daisy Bandeau, mostly because it is a favorite.
Princess Astrid
Princess Astrid wears Queen Alexandra’s Turquoise Circlet for the most important events, choosing Vasa Tiara for events of lesser importance or any of her personal tiaras. I predict that she will wear the Turquoise Circlet for this State Banquet.
