Icelandic State Visit to Norway

President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Jean Reid of Iceland are on their first State Visit to Norway from March 21st to 23rd, where they are guests of the Norwegian Royal Family. On Day 1, King Harald and Queen Sonja officially welcomed the Presidential Couple, attended a wreath-laying ceremony, hosted an official luncheon, and accompanied them on engagements throughout the day. In the evening, King Harald gave a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in honour of his guests.

King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway, accompanied by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit, officially welcomed President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Jean Reid of Iceland at Palace Square in Oslo. The King and President reviewed the guard, before they moved on to Akershus fortress for the wreath-laying ceremony. Afterwards, the King and Queen gave an official luncheon at the Royal palace of Oslo with the Crown Princely couple and Princess Astrid in attendance.

After the luncheon, Queen Sonja accompanied First Lady Eliza Jean Reid to the University of Oslo, where she gave a speech and they took part in a panel discussion on gender equality in the Icelandic workplace.Later, the King & Queen, Presidential couple, and Crown Princess Mette Marit attended a presentation for NORLA – Norwegian Literature Abroad, and the King and Queen accompanied the Presidential couple to the University of Oslo, where the President gave a speech during the closing session of the conference Global Challenges – Nordic Experiences.

In the evening, King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted a State Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo in honour of President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Jean Reid. Both the King and President gave speeches. There were 184 guests in attendance.

For the day events, King Harald wore Uniform with the Sash of the Order of the Falcon and the stars of his other orders. Queen Sonja wore a red coat with black hat, changing into a peach dress for the visits. For the Banquet, King Harald wore Uniform with the Sash of the Order of the Falcon and the stars of his other orders. Queen Sonja wore a 25-year old Erik Mortensen blue gown (worn on her State Visit to Iceland in 1992) and Queen Maud’s Pearl Tiara with the sash of the Order of the Falcon.

For the day events, Crown Prince Haakon wore a Uniform with the sash of the Order of the Olav and the stars of his other orders.. Crown Princess Mette Marit wore an aquamarine coat and hat, changing into a white dress for the visit. For the Banquet, Crown Prince Haakon wore Uniform with the Sash of the Order of the Falcon and the stars of his other orders. Crown Princess Mette Marit wore a yellow and grey striped gown and the Diamond Daisy Tiara with the sash of the Order of the Falcon.

For the luncheon, Princess Astrid wore a teal and blue outfit. For the Banquet, Princess Astrid wore a silver gown and coat and with her Aigrette Tiara and Queen Maud’s Turquoise parure and the sash of the Order of the Falcon.
