King Philippe and Queen Mathilde host New Year’s Reception for Belgian Authorities

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a New Year’s Reception for Belgian Authorities at the Royal Palace of Brussels on January 31st. The King gave a speech to the Government. Princess Astrid and Archduke Lorenz were also present.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a New Year’s Reception for Belgian Authorities at the Royal Palace of Brussels. they welcomed the guests, and then listened to speeches in the grand Throne Room. The King spoke about Brexit and President Trump, saying 2016 was “marked by the decision of two great nations and friends to shift their focus inward.” He added, “This new attitude seems to seek to reverse the course of history, and goes against their tradition of openness and generosity, and their participation in a common commitment and dream.” King Philippe reinforced his support in a united Europe, saying “Let us continue to create a Europe that allows our national identities to reinforce themselves through collaboration, instead of weakening each other in confrontations.
