Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna of Russia

On the 56th Anniversary of her death, we take a look at Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna of Russia, sister of Tsar Nicholas II, in Imperial dress, circa 1908.  A fascinating figure, the Grand Duchess was close to her brothers family, and after the Russian revolution, she settled in Denmark, and became a painter. However, after WWII, her family was forced to emigrate to Canada, where they lived first on a farm in Ontario, and later in an apartment in Toronto, where she entertained her royal relatives including the Duchess of Kent, Lord & Lady Mountbatten, and Queen Elisabeth II, and where she died on November 24th, 1960. The jewels she is wearing in the portrait were probably the ones stolen in 1952, or sold in 1958.
