Top 5 Gala Occasions of The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge

Today marks the 5th anniversary of TRH The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge. Since their wedding on April 29, 2011, TRH have established two homes, at Kensington Palace, London and Amner Hall, Norfolk, as well as having two lovely children. Throughout the past five years, they have also done many public engagements, embarked on overseas tours, and attended many formal events. These are just five of the most iconic Gala occasions of the first five years of their marriage.

In February, 2104, The Duchess attended the National Portrait Gallery Gala in London. She wore an ink-blue gown by Jenny Packham. The focus of her look was on the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, a wedding gift to the Queen in 1947. The Duchess also wore diamond earrings and bracelet, thought to have been a gift from Prince Charles.

The Duke and Duchess attended their first State Banquet in October, 2015. The banquet was held in honour of the President of China, who was on a State visit to the U.K. The Duchess wore a red gown by Jenny Packham, with jewels on loan from the Queen. She wore the Lotus Tiara, made for the Queen Mother in 1923, with diamond chandelier earrings loaned by the Queen, and a bracelet from Queen Mary. HRH also wore the Queen’s wedding gift bracelet, an engagement gift to the Queen from Prince Phillip, the first time the Queen had loaned the piece. The Duke wore White tie, with his Garter sash.

A few weeks later, TRH along with Prince Harry attended the premiere of the new James Bond movie, Spectre. The Duke and Prince Harry wore Black tie. The Duchess wore a gown by Jenny Packham, with aquamarine earrings loaned from her mother.

In December, 2015, The Duke & Duchess attended the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace. We usually don’t get pictures from inside the event, only pictures of the Royals in their cars, but we got some footage of the event in one of the documentaries that were screened for the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The Duke wore White tie, with his Garter sash and honours. The Duchess wore a bespoke gown by Alexander McQueen. She surprised Royal Watcher by wearing Queen Mary’s Lovers knot tiara, a favorite of the Late Diana, Princess of Wales. She also wore the earrings and bracelets worn at the Chinese State Banquet.

During their tour of India and Bhutan in 2016, the Duke & Duchess attended a Gala with Bollywood stars. At the event in Mumbai, the Duke wore Black tie. The Duchess wore a Sapphire blue evening gown by Jenny Packham, with the beading done in India. She also wore a pair of lapis and diamond earrings from Amrapali Jewels, an Indian designer.
